COMPLETE COMPANY PROFILE AND KEY HISTORICAL DATES: Design Professionals, Inc. is a Connecticut-based engineering and land surveying corporation. The company has been in business for more than two decades and has participated in more than 2,000 projects in over 120 communities. The staff of Design Professionals, Inc. consists of civil and traffic engineers, land surveyors, planners, GIS analysts, landscape architects, golf course architects and support personnel. The company is owned and operated by founding principal, president and CEO Peter R. DeMallie, and by principal, executive vice-president and COO Galen B. Semprebon. Mr. DeMallie earned his master’s degree in community planning from the University of Rhode Island and is a former town planner for South Windsor and Killingly, Connecticut. Mr. Semprebon earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Connecticut, is a licensed professional engineer, and has held senior engineering positions at engineering design firms in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Both principals are active in community and non-profit organizations. The firm was among the first in the state to be fully operational (1986) with the AutoCAD/DCA (now AutoCAD/Land Development) software system. As a result, we have computer-generated plans which are visually appealing and state-of-the-art. We routinely exchange disks and e-mail drawings with architects, landscape architects, planners, and with our clients. The five departments of Design Professionals, Inc. offer a variety of services. CIVIL & TRAFFIC ENGINEERING – Offers site planning, traffic analysis and engineering design services, including the preparation of site and subdivision plans, traffic impact and engineering reports, drainage calculations, and presentations and advocacy before local, state and federal land use regulatory boards and commissions. PLANNING – Provides urban and transportation planning services for individual projects, preparation of zoning and other regulations on behalf of public- and private-sector clients, review of site development projects for municipal commissions; and land development consultation services used to assess various property development options, given environmental and regulatory constraints, and market opportunities. LAND SURVEYING – Employs computerized total stations and advanced GPS units using satellite technology to measure the natural and manmade environment. Creates base land surveys for the design team (planners, architects, civil and traffic engineers, and landscape architects) to use for determining the property’s potential and constraints. The department also performs construction stake-out, ALTA/ASCM, and as-built services. LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE – Provides services to enhance the aesthetics and functionality of the exterior environment, from pathways, streetscapes, and foundation plantings, to buffering and screening elements, and exterior lighting components. Our landscape architects create master plans that bring together the building with its environment and selects plant materials that will thrive under local conditions. GIS CONSULTING – Design Professionals, Inc. has automated assessor maps and created geographic information systems for ten communities statewide. Our GIS analysts and planners have assisted numerous communities to fully utilize GIS as a tool for presenting natural resource and other environmental information, which facilitates governmental planning and evaluation processes. Design Professionals, Inc. has collaborated with many of Southern New England's leading architectural firms on more than 30 design and/or survey teams for public and private school projects, providing base land surveying, as well as site planning, engineering and landscape architectural design services. Such services include the design or redesign of large parking lots, street relocations, bus drop-off areas, stadiums, and sports fields, as well as utility, septic and storm water drainage systems. Our staff works closely with municipal boards and commissions, building committees, architects and landscape architects on projects which have included nursery, elementary, middle, and high schools, day care centers, colleges and universities. Projects have ranged from portable classrooms and minor additions, to major expansions, dormitories, and entirely new schools.
