Director of Civil Engineering (Site Design)

Job Description:

Design Professionals, Inc. (DPI) is presently looking for a Director of Civil Engineering to lead our Engineering Department. We work on a wide variety of exciting projects including mixed-use and multi-family developments, single-family subdivisions, retail/commercial developments, industrial/warehouse buildings, and recreational facilities.

DPI places a strong emphasis on a work-life balance recognizing the need to balance work with life outside the office. Our Directors typically average 45 hours per week or less depending on workload and night meetings. We also offer schedule flexibility to take care of family matters when the need arises.

Summary of Duties:

  • Lead the civil design team from concept to complete site design

  • Mentor civil engineering and design staff

  • Coordinate projects with internal departments and external consultants

  • Hands-on design assisting in the preparation of site design plans using Civil 3D

  • Calculations and report preparation for storm drainage and stormwater management and water quality treatment systems

  • Interface with clients, community officials, consultants, including presenting site plans to local regulatory boards and commissions

Required Qualifications:

  • BS or MS degree in Civil Engineering from a program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET

  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license

  • 15+ years of experience in site design

  • Well versed in grading, storm drainage/analysis, utilities, road design, soils testing/septic system design, Connecticut engineering regulations and guidelines

  • Proficiency using AutoCAD

  • Working knowledge of Civil 3D

  • Extensive experience making presentations to boards and commissions

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to multi-task with a strong attention to detail

  • Professional demeanor interacting with staff, clients, and community officials

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Connecticut P.E. license

  • Proficiency with Civil 3D

Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. A signing bonus will be considered for the exceptional candidate.

Land Survey Field Crew Member (Entry-Level)

Job Description:

Do you enjoy working outdoors? Design Professionals, Inc.(DPI) is presently looking for land surveyors (instrument operators) for our growing surveying practice.  Because we serve all of CT, MA, & RI, occasionally overnight stays are required, but are a rarity.

Our survey crews operate state-of-the-art field equipment, including VRN GPS and robotic total stations. We perform all aspects of land surveying, including boundary surveys, topographic surveys, construction stakeout, and as-built surveys.

Job Requirements:

Eagerness and ability to work outdoors in difficult terrain and year-round weather conditions is required. A valid driver's license is also required. Surveying experience is not required, but is a plus. Hourly rate commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus overtime.

Landscape Architect

Job Description:

Design Professionals, Inc (DPI) is seeking an experienced Landscape Architect to join our design team in South Windsor, CT. For consideration candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of site design experience. The ideal candidate will be licensed in CT, work independently yet thrive in a collaborative environment, and possess strong written and verbal communication skills.

This position will work closely with our civil engineers, land surveying team and land planner. With projects that cover a diverse portfolio, including industrial/manufacturing, commercial/retail, educational and recreational, the position offers the opportunity for growth and development.

Summary of Duties:

  • Assist with site design and production of multi-disciplinary projects

  • Independently translate design concepts into CAD based technical specifications and site plans

  • Collaborate with engineering and surveying project managers as needed

  • Interact with clients, vendors, and town staff

  • Prepare landscape plans associated with firm’s site design projects

Job Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture (LAAB accredited program)

  • 5 years site design experience

  • Professional Landscape Architecture License in CT and/or MA (RI license a plus)

  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD (Civil 3D a plus), Microsoft Office Suite

Land Surveyor

Job Description: 
Design Professionals, Inc. (DPI) is presently looking for a Project Manager for our growing land surveying practice. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Licensed Land Surveyor (CT or MA preferred), or LSIT with ability to obtain license within one year

  • Proficiency in Civil 3D software utilized in a land surveying capacity (2+ years minimum)

  • Strong interpersonal skills and client coordination

  • Complete understanding of field survey methods and procedures

  • Willingness/ability to temporarily assist field crews as needed, including working in all weather conditions, walking long distances on potentially difficult terrain, and carrying survey equipment

  • Experience in preparing digital surface models for GPS equipment a plus, but not required

  • Ability to multi-task, detail-oriented, and strong organizational skills

  • Consistency with meeting deadlines

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance

Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Although a rate is listed, DPI would be willing to discuss a wage outside of the range for an exceptional candidate.
