Design Professionals, Inc. (DPI) is presently looking for a Director of Civil Engineering to help grow our Civil Engineering Department. DPI is a leading multi-disciplinary land development consulting firm serving the three southern New England states (CT, MA, RI) from our home office in South Windsor, Connecticut. Our practice includes Civil Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, and Land Planning services for private- and public-sector clients. We work on a wide variety of exciting projects including mixed-use and multi-family developments, single-family subdivisions, retail/commercial developments, educational, houses of worship, industrial/warehouse buildings, government facilities, and recreational facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the civil design team from concept to complete site design

  • Mentor civil engineering and other design staff

  • Coordinate projects with internal departments and external consultants

  • Hands-on design assisting in the preparation of site design plans using Civil 3D

  • Calculations and report preparation for storm drainage and stormwater management and water quality treatment systems

  • Interface with clients, community officials, consultants, including presenting site plans to local regulatory boards and commissions

  • Create a great learning environment for supervised employees in order to advance their careers.

Required Qualifications

  • BS or MS degree in Civil Engineering from a program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET

  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license

  • Minimum 6 years in a supervisory role

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in site design

  • Well versed in grading, storm drainage/analysis, utilities, road design, soils testing/septic system design, Connecticut engineering regulations and guidelines

  • Proficiency using AutoCAD

  • Working knowledge of Civil 3D

  • Extensive experience making presentations to boards and commissions

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to multi-task with a strong attention to detail

  • Professional demeanor interacting with staff, clients, and community officials

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • CT, MA and/or RI licensure

  • Proficiency with Civil 3D

Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. A signing bonus will be considered for the exceptional candidate.

  • Ability to multi-task with a strong attention to detail

  • Experienced in a wide variety of land uses

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Proficiency with Civil 3D

  • CT, MA and/or RI licensure

Land Surveyor/Project Manager (L.S.)

Job Description:

Design Professionals, Inc. (DPI) is presently looking for a Project Manager for our growing land surveying practice. DPI is a leading multi-disciplinary land development consulting firm serving the three southern New England states from our home office in South Windsor, Connecticut. 

​

We perform all aspects of land surveying, including boundary surveys, topographic surveys, construction stakeout, as-built surveys. and digital surface modeling. DPI has numerous large land surveying projects under contract with multiple private- and public-sector clients in CT, MA, and RI. 

 

Summary of Duties: 

  • Work with Director of Surveying and Senior Project Manager to prepare survey mapping, including boundary and topographic surveys, easements, subdivision plans, etc. 

  • Boundary computations

  • Assist with field crew preparation and scheduling 

  • Import and process field book data from the field crews

  • Create topographic maps utilizing TIN surfaces based on survey data

  • Conduct land record research on subject and surrounding properties 

  • Periodically serve as a crew chief

  • Ensure compliance with company standards and procedures. 

Required Qualifications

  • Licensed Land Surveyor (MA, CT or RI preferred), or LSIT with ability to obtain license within one year.

  • Proficiency in Civil 3D software utilized in a land surveying capacity (2+ years minimum)

  • Strong interpersonal skills and client coordination

  • Complete understanding of field survey methods and procedures

  • Willingness/ability to periodically serve as crew chief, as needed, including working in all weather conditions, walking long distances on potentially difficult terrain, and carrying survey equipment

  • Experienced in preparing digital surface models for GPS equipment or site design experience a plus, but not required

  • Ability to multi-task, detail-oriented, and strong organizational skills

  • Consistency with meeting deadlines

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance

 

Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Although a rate is listed, DPI would be willing to discuss a wage outside of the range for an exceptional candidate.
