MEET THE KEY MEMBERS OF OUR TEAM
DPI’s professional staff consists of land surveyors, GIS analysts, civil & traffic engineers, landscape architects, planners and support personnel, most of whom hold professional degrees in engineering, landscape architecture, community planning, business administration or natural resources. We have licensed professional engineers, licensed professional land surveyors, and registered landscape architects on staff, always designing our projects with high regard for the environment.  We are licensed to provide engineering and land surveying services in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.

DPI’s diversity of projects coupled with our staff’s experience and expertise enables us to successfully manage projects of any size, providing clients with the professional service they deserve.  Our history combined with our staff’s involvement in the community has led to an extremely high rate of success for regulatory approvals at the local and state levels, often times in spite of neighborhood, local, and competitor opposition.
Ms. DeMallie holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Connecticut, and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design (Urban Planning & Landscape Architecture) from the University of Massachusetts. Since helping found the company in 1986, she has worked her way through the business to become majority owner, where she manages the staff and makes corporate decisions.

Prior to joining Design Professionals, Inc. Ms. DeMallie was a Business Consultant with Profiles, Inc. and held municipal planner positions with the Town of West Hartford, Quinebaug Valley Youth Services Bureau, and the City of Cranston, Rhode Island. Ms. DeMallie has a varied history of volunteer activities. She has been a member of the Vernon Inland Wetlands Commission, a member of the Wood Memorial Library board of directors, and was past president of the Vernon/Ellington Newcomers Club.

Following a decade of experience as a public sector urban planner, Mr. DeMallie was instrumental in founding Design Professionals, Inc.  Mr. DeMallie utilizes his extensive planning experience to assist in managing the firm’s staff of professionals, facilitating project applications and coordination for numerous governmental, industrial, residential, commercial and institutional development projects throughout southern New England.  He makes dozens of presentations each year to various regulatory agencies.

After founding DPI, Mr. DeMallie also provided consulting Town Planner services to Woodstock (1988-2004), Killingly and Burlington, Connecticut.  He frequently authors zoning and subdivision regulation amendments.  He also drafted the entire zoning regulations for the Town of Woodstock, Connecticut and co-authored the community’s Plan of Conservation and Development.

Mr. Wheeler utilizes his diverse experience in the site design fields to serve as the company’s Director of Operations, coordinating the daily operations of the company.  In this position, he is also responsible for the internal coordination of projects between the different departments as well as general client coordination.

Mr. Wheeler will also serve as Project Manager including the design of various land development projects including schools, healthcare facilities, industrial and office parks, shopping centers, condominium and apartment complexes, recreational facilities, streetscapes, athletic complexes, sports fields, and municipal parks.  He is also responsible for overseeing all landscape and site lighting design elements for all of the company’s projects and makes presentations before state and municipal land-use regulatory agencies for zoning, architectural design review, recreational commission reviews, and wetland agencies.

In addition to his other duties, Mr. Wheeler also serves as the firm’s IT director and CAD Manager, offering technical assistance to the engineering and surveying departments as the need arises, including frequently serving as a critical member of field survey crews.

Mr. Wheeler is a CLARB Certified Landscape Architect and a Registered Landscape Architect in the states of Connecticut and Ohio.

Mr. Krar’s professional experience has spanned over 15 years and involved many disciplines of engineering including civil site design, land planning, utility design, subsurface sewage disposal, hydrology, traffic & transportation. Current professional interests and expertise are devoted to low impact and sustainable solutions in the fields of site design, transportation, and storm water management. 

In the past, Mr. Krar has served as a construction/field engineer for a heavy highway bridge contractor, a chief inspector for a high profile streetscape project, and as a materials testing engineer.

Mr. Krar earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering graduating magna cum laude from the University of Hartford in 1996, and subsequently his master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Connecticut where he dedicated his research to transportation and urban planning. He is a member of numerous academic honor societies including Tau Beta Pi, and Alpha Chi. Current certifications include LEED Green Associate, OSHA-10 hour construction safety, and confined space entry. Mr. Krar currently serves his hometown of Suffield as a member of its Conservation Commission.

Mr. Krar is a licensed Professional Engineer in the States of Connecticut and Rhode Island, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Mr. Geissler manages the survey department at Design Professionals, including field crews, office technicians and GIS personnel, utilizing over 40 years of experience in the land surveying and mapping fields.  He is responsible for reviewing and signing all survey maps as well as overseeing land record research and the collection of field data using conventional, GPS, and VRN survey techniques.  He also supervises and participates in the preparation of base mapping for boundary, bathymetric, utilities, wetlands, topographic, hydrographic, ALTA, mortgage and as-built surveys, construction “stake-out”, and geo-referencing GIS data to standard coordinate systems.

Mr. Geissler has managed the company's on-call land surveying contract with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, which covers Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.

Mr. Geissler was instrumental in the development of Connecticut’s first Certificate program in Land Surveying at Charter Oak State College in New Britain, which began in 2008.  He is a licensed land surveyor in the states of Connecticut and Rhode Island and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.



Utilizing over 25 years of experience in the surveying field, Mr. Kryla is Design Professionals' Deputy Director of Surveying and Senior Crew Chief.  He assists the Director of Surveying in the management of the department and oversees the activities of all of our survey field staff.  He is also responsible for the land survey collection of field data and land record research. Mr. Kryla also provides base mapping for boundary, utilities, wetlands, topographic, ALTA, mortgage and as-built surveys as well as construction “stake-out” services.

As Senior Crew Chief, he is responsible for managing the policies and procedures for the company’s GPS and VRN technologies, including staff training.

Mr. Kryla is a Registered Land Surveyor in the State of Connecticut and the country of Poland.
